Environmental Driller

This position ensures that drilling operations are in accordance with the drilling plan from implementation, completion, and abandonment of drill sites. The Driller works with the crew, as team leader, in preparing the equipment and site for the drilling operation setup and breakdown of drilling site which requires the ability to stand for long periods of time and ability to perform repetitive bending, lifting, and climbing. This individual promotes safety, reports safety problems, incidents, accidents, or irregularities to the business management.

Essential Functions

Includes knowledge and ability to perform the Driller’s roles and to backfill if necessary.

  • Knowledge and ability to operate drilling rigs and related drilling equipment to perform soil borings and/or drill and install monitor wells for environmental purposes. Methods include hollow stem and solid stem augers, over drilling, split spoon sampling, direct push technology, air rotary, air coring, standard penetration tests, associated pumps/motors, and others.
  • Possess knowledge of identifying utility markings to ensure non-conflict with well/boring location.
  • Ensures that equipment is in good repair and safe operating condition. Conducts preventative and routine maintenance as needed.
  • Ability to lead, train and mentor employees while maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Promote positive working relationship with client and fellow employees.
  • Maintains daily drilling activity records for submission to regulatory agencies. Verify depths and placement of boring positions
  • Maintains all certifications as required for licensing and/or jobsite safety requirements.
  • Manage the work site activity for safety, organization, and productivity.
  • Assures safety training is current for self and entire work crew for each project.

 Job Requirements / Preferred Qualifications

  • TDLR Driller licensed – Monitor Well (M)
  • CDL – Class A
  • Five (5) years’ experience in the drilling industry
  • One (1) year of experience as a licensed driller with a variety of rigs
  • OSHA 40 HAZWOPER certified preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds throughout the day
  • Must be willing to travel during the week
  • Knowledge of safety policies, regulations, and a demonstrated record of excellent safe work habits
  • Live in or near San Antonio
  • Transferable skills will be considered in lieu of TDLR Driller license for Apprentice position

Driller Assistant

Drillers’ assistants help move, set up, and operate drilling rigs and related equipment to drill vertical exploratory holes to determine characteristics of soil at proposed construction and environmentally sensitive sites that vary from cleared land to busy city streets. The activity requires a combination of mechanical drilling equipment operation and manual labor to advance the borehole in an outdoor work environment. The work involves abilities to follow written instruction on material needs preparation, pre-trip and post-trip inspections of equipment, practice on the job safety, unloading of materials, and to perform on the job in a professional manner all under the direction of the lead driller.

 Essential Functions and Job Tasks

  • Assists the drill crew chief in performing field activities, including but not limited to, drilling and sampling services, well installations, plugging and abandonment of wells.
  • Ensure that equipment is clean, maintained and mobilized as directed.
  • Gather equipment daily as needed for projects. Loading and unloading trucks.
  • Maintaining and expediting field supplies.
  • Assist with moving drilling rig and equipment from site to site and set up.
  • Operate pumps (air, water, other) and equipment to perform the job/project.
  • Connecting and disconnecting the lower parts of the drill pipe as the bore hole progresses.
  • Physically complete labor-intensive projects assigned by driller/project manager. Manual lifting to include body motion and movements: bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, pushing, kneeling, etc.
  • Aptitude for mechanics and machinery; Monitor the performance of all company equipment to identify maintenance and repair needs.
  • Complete required paperwork, including daily reports, safety forms and vehicle/equipment inspections.
  • Attend safety meetings and comply with company and client safety protocols.
  • Maintain a clean and organized working environment, including equipment and job sites.
  • Ability to cope with physical demands of the job.
  • Willing to work in remote areas under difficult conditions.
  • Must follow the direction of the lead driller.
  • Must follow and enforce all safety procedures.
  • Must be reliable and punctual.
  • Other duties as assigned by management and/or lead driller.
